Our Strategy and Enforcement Policy 2024

Our Strategy and Enforcement Policy sets out how the OEP aims to protect and improve the environment, by holding government and other public authorities to account. It explains what we aim to achieve, and how we approach our work – including the values we uphold, and how we work with others.

This is a revision to the strategy we first set out in 2022.  In reviewing our approach, we found our Strategy and Enforcement Policy, had broadly stood the test of time.

We have simplified our Strategy to make our approach and ambition easier to understand. We have also made improvements to our approach, including in how we describe and measure success, the importance we place on our analysis of the prospects of meeting environmental goals and targets, and how we use information from any source to identify potential non-compliance with environmental law.

We consulted on these changes from July to September 2024 and have also published a summary of the feedback we received and how we took it into account, in finalising our Strategy. We would like to thank all the stakeholders that took part in this consultation for their valuable contribution.
